How does it go? "Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!" Dr. Seuss himself would have coveted an invitation to this intimate gathering, when a group of friends celebrated a new arrival in this quaint secret garden.
Meet the Mommy-To-Be
When Angela Margolis, co-owner of event production company Sterling Social, was expecting a baby boy, even she admits that she never expected such a thoughtfully-planned baby shower. "Walking into my baby shower truly took my breath away!" she says. "Not only was the setting magical, but I could tell that every detail my amazing hosts put together had sentimental meaning."
The shower was set in a beautiful private backyard in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Close friends and family — both near and far — traveled to celebrate her baby boy on-the-way. "The soft watercolor palette in shades of blue perfectly matched the nursery I had been designing and the subtle Oh! The Places You'll Go theme was taken from a print I fell in love with on Pinterest. The fact that my best friends picked up on those special touches during the planning process blew me away!"
An Invitation to Adventure
Whimsical invitations — in a soft watercolor blue — were designed with a "boy blue" reference to Angela's nursery in mind, courtesy of Amber Moon Design.
The Destination Awaits
The event was hosted at a private residence in Los Angeles. Upon arrival, guests ventured into a lush garden. And at it's center: reclaimed wood tables were paired with metal chairs from Found Rentals were set beneath the towering trees for everyone to dine together for lunch.
Be Seated
Awaiting each guest, individual place settings were arranged with matte gray ceramic plates, silver flatware, and handmade dip-dyed blue muslin napkins that were playfully tied in knots from Borrowed Blu. And reminiscent to the invitations, watercolor place cards — again, in flowing shades of blue — marked their seat at the table.
Wild and Whimsical
Overflowing, almost wild floral arrangements added a soft touch to the wood tabletops. All were a mix of natural greenery and white florals — think garden roses, ranunculus, vibernum berry, Queen Anne's lace, astrantia, clover, eucalyptus, bay leaf, and Italian pittosporum foliage — courtesy of JL Designs.
Mapping the Way
This hand calligraphy print from A Fabulous Fete with the theme of the shower, "Oh the Places You'll Go" added a personal and memorable touch that can forever be displayed in the nursery as a keepsake from the day. And tucked away — here and there — throughout the yard, furniture was arranged for extra-comfy seating to watch Angela open gifts.

Forged Friendships
"During lunch, I had to take a minute to pause, look around, and take in the fact that so many people I loved were in one place," Angela says. "I'll never forget the overwhelming sense of happiness I felt being able to celebrate my baby boy in such a perfect way."

A Toast Or Two
Refreshing cocktails (and mocktails!) made their way 'round and 'round the table, courtesy of Quench.

On the Menu
A healthy, yet hearty lunch was served by Haute Chefs with menu curation by nutritionist Be Well by Kelly. A big hit at the table? This kale salad with purple flowering kale, toasted candied pepitas, roasted acorn squash, caramelized onions, and citrus vinaigrette.

The Sweet Surprise
The sunny afternoon was complete with homemade vegan cake adorned with soft white blooms and greenery.

You're Off and Away!
Collections of globes were placed around the event setting as subtle hints of all the adventurous places the baby boy will hopefully travel in his lifetime. Instead of a traditional guest book, everyone was asked to write a note to the baby suggesting the amazing places he should plan to visit throughout his lifetime.
Congratulations! Today is Your Day!
"It was an absolute dream, and a little surreal," Angela recalls, "to walk into an event and recognize all the beautiful styling details that went into bringing the day to life. After planning so many showers in the past, it was honestly the most touching experience to know this one was about celebrating my own baby boy on the way."
